Serie A Violence Halts All Football In Italy

italy-soccer-ball.gifViolence at Friday's Serie A match between Catania and Palermo has caused the Italian Football Federation to suspend all matches indefinitely, including Wednesday's friendly between the national teams of Italy and Romania.

A police officer was killed in rioting outside Catania's Stadio Massimino.

Violence was a concern before the match and tear-gas stopped play for 30 minutes during the second half.

More rioting occurred following the game which Palermo won controversially 2-1.

Officials had earlier threatened to halt all football in the country following violence last weekend.

On Saturday, an official of amateur club Sammartinese died after being punched while attempting to separate brawling players and fans.

No less than three other Italian football matches reported some kind of violence last weekend.

Ronaldo - AC Milan Finally Seal the Deal

ac-milan-soccer-ball.jpgThe only big transfer for January that seemed certain is finally a done deal as Ronaldo leaves Real Madrid for AC Milan.

Unfortunately for Milan, the Brazilian superstar is cup-tied and cannot feature in the remainder of this year's Champions League.

Ronaldo follows David Beckham out the Galacticos-door that new Real manager Fabio Capello seems to have created.

The three-time FIFA World Player of the Year had no kinds words for his now former manager as he left, saying, "I want to thank... all the coaches I've had, except one".

Ronaldo leaves with the 2003 La Liga title and 95 goals in 152 La Liga and Champions League matches.

He joined Real from Inter Milan in 2002.

Ronaldo - AC Milan Looks to Sign Real Madrid Striker

ac-milan-soccer-ball.jpgAfter weeks of speculation, AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani has said Ronaldo will officially be joining the Italian giants as early as Monday.

Ronaldo is out of favor at Real Madrid and has had very little playing time as Fabio Capello seemingly looks to end the "Galacticos" era.

The 30 year-old Brazilian has started only three matches in La Liga this season.

Ronaldo joined Real Madrid from Inter Milan in 2002 and scored 83 goals in 127 appearances in all competitions.

Arsenal 3-0 Tottenham
Two controversial penalty's and an Emmanuel Adebayor goal see the Gunners climb all the way to third.

Wigan 0-4 Liverpool

English Premier League

Everton 2-0 West Ham
The Toffees up to 7th, one point back of Arsenal, Portsmouth, Liverpool, and Reading. Tevez has another fine performance, but West Ham are just one point above the relegation zone.

Spain La Liga

Espanyol 2-1 Sevilla
A Fredi Kanoute penalty in the 25th doesn't hold up. Espanyol equalize on a stunning move from Raul Tamudo as he backheels to himself and fires a brilliant near-post strike. Luis Garcia taps-in the winner that drops Sevilla to third, two points back of Barca.

Real Madrid 2-1 Athletic de Bilbao
Bilbao go up in the 34th on a 30-yard free kick from Roberto Tiko. Ronaldo comes on for the second half, receives a perfect 40-yard pass at the top of the area, takes a lovely first touch, and tucks under the keeper to make it 1-1. Roberto Carlos gets the winner with a spectacular 30-yard low-drive just inside the post. Madrid are now in second only one point back of Barcelona.

Serie A

Parma 0-0 Palermo
Palermo fall to 3rd, four points back of Roma and eight points back of leaders Inter.

Argentinos Jrs. 2-2 Estudiantes de La Plata
The Apertura appears over until the 79th when Pavone draws Estudiantes level at 1-1. But an extra time leveler from Choy makes it 2-2 and leaves Estudiantes three points back of Boca going into the final week.

River Plate 1-2 Nueva Chicago
Farias' early goal is cancelled out by goals from Chicago's Federico Higuain and Jorge Martinez. River were out of the running to win the Apertura going into the day, and now have solidified a 3rd place finish.
